Fuel warning light ?
Hi guys

On a 2.5td defender with a ( 200tdi ) my fuel warning light starts flashing at 1/2 full and as the fuel goes down the light flashes faster and now the gauge is reading in between empty and quarter full and the warning light is staying on.

is this right or is my sender faulty Smile Graham

Graham, that sounds faulty.

The light should only come on when there's approx 8-6 litres in the tank --

On older vehicles such as yours there is no proper damping of the fuel gauge, this means that sometimes when the tank has reduced in level going round corners or being on side slopes will affect your fuel gauge reading and bring on the low fuel light intermittently. Obviously as the level decreases further this will happen more frequently.

Used to happen on my 200Tdi, when below 1/2 tank and going round roundabouts the light would come on. Upgrading to Td5 instrumentation fixed it as it has far better damping in the sender circuit.

According to the manual fuel light should come on when there's 2 gallons remaining.

So basically no it's probably not faulty, just a "feature".

That's eggzackly what mine is doing but rather than fit a td5 gauge cluster would wiring in another fuel gauge but still use the warning light on the gauge cluster Smile Graham
