Chris, it seem that in typical LR fashion it may have a diff lock, just no leaver to engage it! The only way to find out for sure is to crawl underneath, and check, this link provides some more info: http://www.discovery2.co.uk/diff_lock.html

The vast majority of Disco2s do not have the internals for the difflock fitted. These can be identified by the solid boss on the front output housing where the operating lever would be if there was one.
A relatively small number of very early Disco2s had the internals fitted but had no operating linkage fitted. These have the threaded spigot protruding from the front output housing (which can be operated with a spanner). These boxes are as rare as rocking horse poo and command a premium second hand. An incredibly small number of Disco2s had everything fitted including the operating lever in the cab. These make RH poo look common place and I have never even seen one! For the last 10 years or so I've been trying to find the transfer gear lever assembly for one without success (anyone here have one I can buy?) If however you are fitting a Disco2 non difflock box into a Defender it is very easy to fit the difflock from the Def box to the Disco box. |

My brother has a difflock on his disco 2. He had to fit the linkage from Ashcrofts. I think some of the very late run out facelift cars also have difflock as well.

Yes, the last few did have the CDL internals (the operating linkage was an optional extra). It finally dawned on LR that TC was not an acceptable alternative to a CDL!
Anyone have a GENUINE transfer lever assembly for a Disco2 with CDL for sale? Been looking for one for ages! |

When removing the transfer bolts that hold it to the main box replace them with threaded rod[10mm?]Box can then be slid along the rods until it clears the splines.Makes it easier to replace with less chance of damaging oil seal.
