C’mon guys, get real - it’s a truck, not a Mercedes.

My own one (Defender, not Mercedes) made exactly the same noise from new. At its first service the dealer took off the door card, tightened something or other and for a while the noise disappeared. It’s now back, along with rattling from one of the other doors and a clonking from the rear suspension whenever I take a roundabout at speed.

At its next service the dealer can have a look and may or may not find something.

But the one thing I am NOT going to do is faff around myself trying to locate squeaks and rattles on a ladder-framed, bolted-together antiquated design that I knew full well when I bought it was not going to be anything other than a rattly tin can that just happens to be the best towing vehicle in production.

If you remove the door card you will see a black strip that is supposed to be screwed to the door frame. Your window glass slides down into this strip. The head on the retaining screw holding the strip in place rusts and the strip comes loose. It flaps and bangs against the door when the door is closed. I did a fix by getting some duct tape, folding it around itself and placing it behind the strip. Then I ran the window up and down. This pushes the strip tight to the door and the duct tape holds it in place. No more rattles. If you have a small enough screw you could use that but make sure it is sunk enough so as not to catch the side of the glass. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

If you worry about rattles and squeaks and leaks you will go mad. Rolling with laughter

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the tips guys. I've ordered some new trim clips and i'll have a look myself.

If there is more to be done than just a few tweaks here and there i'll leave it to the dealer, especially if there are parts to buy.
