Wondering if anyone could recommend a CB radio for me?
It needs: - to be small enough to mount INSIDE cubby box (can't measure right now but I'm assuming that DIN is ok for this) - to have the channel controls/volume controls/squelch and readout and on the mic preferably so i can just have the MIC out of the cubby on greenlaning trips, and don't have to open up to change channels/squelch/vol - some way of having a speaker outside the cubby, either by the mic having a decent one built in or by having the option of a small speaker mounted somewhere around the cubby. Im not worried about paying a bit to get something that will last, but will only really need basic(ish) functionality so it doesn't have to be over the top. something simple, reliable and good quality will do. cheers in advance guys, Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. also worth mentioning I've never owned/operated a CB before so it will need to be of 'universal' specification if that makes sense? just want it to work with what others are using on greenlaning etc Cheers, David

Hi David
Have a look at the "Polmar Venus" from www.thunderpole.co.uk It should do everything you require Chris |

Yeah, looks very good thanks!
Stupid question but is the defender roof aluminum? No mag mount I guess - has to be gutter mounted? Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

If you have roof bars or rack they are even more ideal, my Mantec bars even have pre drilled mounting holes. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Just a thought David, but if this is for infrequent use over relatively short distances, a handheld may be a better option.
No installation hassle or aerial advertising expensive kit and far more secure. Thunderpole sell Intek which aren't too bad - something to think about possibly? Chris |

Jim at www.4x4CB.com is an expert in Defender CB, check out his website.
At FCX we have a cubby box designed specifically to house a CB in the Defender |

Another vote for Jim at 4x4CB.com that man knows more about CB's than the rest of us put together. His website is good but for real quality service give him a ring, explain what your looking for and he'll suggest something that'll work. He'll also be happy to go through all the mounting options. Personally a PSM-1 mount with a Springer on the back of a defender looks the dogs dangly bits. He also has guides on his website on how to sort out the SWR reading. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

Again Jim @ 4x4 cb
But would advise against hand held, more costly, less good. Very disappointed in mine. Andy |

Wow thanks for taking the time to give some great advice as usual guys,
I'll give both options a thorough looking through. I did consider a handheld but I could do with all the range I can get as although I only Greenland infrequently, when I do it's usually as part of a larger group separated into 2/3 smaller groups, and because of where I live (Cheshire) it normally ends up in the north wales hills so any extra range is useful. Also it's another thing to forget/have cluttering up the dash. I think a gutter mount is the best option for aerial for me, and I will just remove the aerial when I'm not using it probably, or look at a more 'temporary' mounting solution which can leave the aerial inside the car when not using it, but that will require some thought and a good look around the car tomorrow. I think the polar Venus looks a good unit yeah, will have a look a Jim's site too now. Thanks again folks Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

these are good, you mount the cb away somewhere and the display can be mounted on the dash, outside cubby or where ever you like
