Ok so what's a better removable alternative? I definitely don't want to drill bodywork
And each they do look good bpman, but probably out of my price range unfortunately! Something cheaper could do the job just as well Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

If you go on the mud site there is info about CB that go in it without trimming the headlining

I've used a gutter mount on the last 3 vehicles I've had for over 15 years with no problems.
If you buy a quality unit and fit it properly you'll be fine. Also, a "Quick Disconnect" mount, as an add on item between gutter mount and aerial allows fast removal for storage. These are less than Ł5.Just make sure you fit it before you check the SWR and adjust the aerial. Chris |

I use a Midland handheld unit currently when landing. It cam with a car kit and it runs on AA batteries (ideal when not in the vehicle), rechargeable batteries via a separate connector or the Defenders 12v supply.
It has clear controls, good built in speaker and also a connection for an external CB ariel - I've not bothered fitting a proper ariel yet as the built in one works fine and has enough range. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

thats also a good option JSG, but to be honest i just like the feel of holding the mic on the end of a twizzly cord and saying roger and over and stuff! hehe
on a more serious note, anyone have anything to say regarding my choice between these 2: 1) http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/mobile-cbs/cobra-75-st-cb-eu.html 2) http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/mobile-cbs/polmar-venus.html im strongly leaning towards the VENUS just because of price, and because i could get the aerial, mount etc as a bundle. but thats based on little more than price really. also as JSG said, ones like this do actually look like a very good option.

In the days of 1 - 4 for a copy for the home base crew or 1 - 9 for a copy for those with wheels the Cobra used to be the 'Muts Nuts' of the CB world. IMHO Adventure isn't paved!

The Midland Hand held works well in the car with the kit supplied, just connect to the cigarette lighter and an antenna. 2008 Defender 110 XS CSW

Hi guys, thanks for all the help.
I'm going to get either the polmar Venus, or the cobra equivalent (75 ST EU) and could do with a bit of advice with aerials. 1) can I use the standard FM/AM aerial? I think I've seen adapters around but don't want to lose fm radio, even when using the CB so not sure that's an option...? 2) if the above isn't possible, what is the tidiest option? Don't really fancy the idea of a big springy aerial bouncing around from the roof if possible? Could I use another standard defender aerial? Maybe even an electrically raisable one as per-http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=360347528896 Anyone ever fitted an electric aerial out of interest? Would it work for CB or could I fit an electric one for FM and use the original for fm? Or would I be better using 2 standard manual ones? Any advice welcomed! Anyone ever used the standard fm one? Like the idea of having 2 - one on each side. Ie one for CB and one for fm Cheers, David

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get a good SWR with a roof rack mount.
Even with a nice fat earth down to the chassis, coupled with the fact that you always have to route the co-ax back inside anyway, I changed to a PSM-1 mount on the back and now get a very low SWR and all cables are hidden inside. As for my unit, I wasn't that interested in bells and whistles, so just went for the Maxon 4x4 deal at Thunderpole; http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/cb-radio-pack...-cm10.html I've mounted it in a Mud Stuff Roof console but it is smaller than a DIN sized so could fit inside a cubby. As for using an FM one, not really, but if you are not looking for distance then one of these would be fine > http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/small-cb-antennas.html Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |
