Of course, but that's the nature of a possibility and is the context of farmer giles' comment. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

cheers darren; i will actively encourage my children to ride bikes, climb trees, play rugby and enjoy life, but putting them in mortal danger for a bit of risky off roading fun is not an option.
assuming that there was a need to cross that river it would be prudent to try it with no passengers - like the 90 rolling down the hill with the boy getting out at the start, thus reducing the risk of death to only the driver in the worst case scenario. |

^^^ I was going to type more or less exactly the same thing (it may be -20 out there, we can't tell) but I got bored typing it and figured someone would only start harping on about kids again...

After following this thread after making an early reply, it seems there are 2 views.... half point out that it was dangerous and concentrate on the child.. the others feel that it was just an accident and the drived didn't see a risk.
I have a feeling that one lot have nice shiney Defenders and the other have covered many miles off the beaten track where a certain element of risk is taken (but it is calculated). When in Georgia the route which I took involved crossing 2 rivers like the one in the video- fast flowing (but the one of the ones I crossed was well over the top of the bonnet for 60% of the width). I crossed them because they were the only way to the location I was heading to and there were no bridges (or electricity and running water). Before crossing I checked depth and flow and it was on the border of what I would do...... Did I consider my safety? Or the safety of passengers? Nope- I thought about the safety of the Land Rover- if that is safe then everyone and everything inside it will also be safe. In the video the route looks very well driven and in my eyes that is a simple crossing- the driver for some reason started up stream and turned slightly downstream which is a big mistake and resulted in the vehicle tipping. The end of the day it wasn't 'risky' 'dangerous' 'thoughtless' 'irresponsible' or any other word- it was an accident. Glyn |

I have a new one that gets polished.
No matter how good a driver you are mistakes. I bet even Vince Copley the LRO off road chap has had an issue or two off-road. I really don't think you should take kids off roading. Unless its a more controlled environment, say the lro off road course where there's first aid trained marshals. Crossing a river is dangerous what about if you dropped into a hole halfway through. |

Can't help thinking that the object of the Darwin awards was for stupid people to remove themselves from the gene pool in a novel/stupid manner prior to breeding! He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |
