Mines standard tbox'd, and I used to be able to sit quite happily at 75-80. Now with an alive stage 1 remap she'll sit comfortably at 80-85 in the outside lane if I want to. I personally dont find the noise too excessive, fuel consumption takes a big hit though. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"

Lovely car, and as I said previously IMHO the best colour,

Guess the difference is the colour of the chequer plate and the wheels

Thanks for sharing the photo, it looks great,

Would like a roof rack but as the car is garaged I cannot fit one

On another note, if you have not been to Peterborough show before you would have a great time Thumbs Up

Did you say you had done a stage 1 on yours ? If so, have you had any issues at all re engine stress?

I do like those zu wheels, they may go on my shopping list Smile

Yes it has had the ecu changed for an nnn type which means that it can be remapped.

It was done before I had it. The car has done just less than 200000 miles and pulls like a train.

I have owned it about 2 years and have had no problems apart from the gearbox that I mentioned.

The engine is amazing in that it uses no oil or water, which considering the milage is pretty good.

I don't know anything about the remap, even who did it, but I have the original ecu and when I put it back in it came out very very quickly because of the dramatic loss in torque qnd power.

In the future, hopefully near future I will have it looked at by one of the tuning experts, probably ian at irb as he is local and he sorted me out with my new gearbox. I will probably upgrade the intercooler at the same point Thumbs Up

That is good to know, the reason I ask is because yesterday I did my ECU which is a replaced one like yours.....I remapped it with a twisted stage 1 and I still can't believe the difference, it scares me Smile I think I will break the engine when I put my foot down, but it's reassuring you have one the same age and has been remapped for a while, do you have the standard inter cooler ATM?

Stupid question time.......

Inter coolers in cars......what are we cooling? Water? Oil? Air? I think it might be turbo air?

Tbh I have not really studied them that closely. In principle the bigger the inter cooler the more it cools the air and do the more Bhp that you develop. However I think that it would be best to have remap adjusted after fitting bigger inter cooler

Allisport are very good quality. There are also plenty of other makes out there. Allisport (and others) also sell on ebay, but there's several site sponsers who will probably do a good deal on one.

If you check the thread that Pete @ BAS did on intercoolers, just adding the i/c on its own makes minimal difference to power... it's only when a remap and boost increase are applied that extra power is made.

As you increase the turbo boost, the air gets compressed more, and thus gets hotter (think of the old bicycle pump thing, as you pumped it the cylinder got hot), same principle, hotter air has the molecules further apart and tus takes up more space, or in other words, less of it for any given area, so if you cool it again (whilst still under pressure from the turbo) you can fit more of it in, thus add more fuel, and as we know, air & fuel = fire... fire being the ignition in the top of the cumbustion chamber which pushes the piston down and rotates the crankshaft.

Bigger fire = more oomph pushing the piston down = more torque turning the crankshaft = higher speeds of the vehicle = bigger smile on your face!
