Just wondering which one I should go for ?
I don't like the safari one, the genuine jobby looks neat with the moulded in Logo but does the Mantec look better or more importantly fit better ? Or made from better stuff ? DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

I've got the Mantec (plastic jobby !) fitted to mine.
Easy to fit, far cheaper than the LR version, and no problems with power degradation etc. You do need a rivnut tool for the two wing bolts. I got the Sealey tool from Frost Restoration, a bit expensive but can be used for rivets, blind nuts etc. Looks wise, I think it looks fine but that is all down to personal taste ! Bob |

There's very little in it really. Almost identical. We have the OEC one and have no complaints.

Thanks guys,
the rivnut tool is a cracking idea ! Way cheaper than buying one if it's only gonna be used for a couple of jobs ! What's scaring me the most is drilling the a pillar ! I fitted a safari snorkel to a 200 TDI many moons ago and I ballsed the bracket right up on the a pillar ! DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

The pillar was the bit I didn't worry about - I was more frightened about drilling the wing !
What I did was make up the RAI without the top fitted, then put masking tape on the wing and pillar. Fitted the RAI and, whan satisfied it was in position correctly, marked up the positions for the bolts onto the tape. I used a 12 volt Dewalt drill/driver on the lowest speed and slowly drilled pilot holes in the wing and then expanded out to full size. On the pillar I went straight in with the full size drill bit, again using the slowest speed on the drill that I could. Amazingly, everything fitted with no mishaps !! The only mod I made was to fit a gasket made from 2mm closed cell foam between the pillar and the bracket - one of my 'just incase it leaks' mods ! Bob |

Yup - Mantec one. Half the price of the Genuine one and I think it looks better to boot.
Was dead easy to fit (although make sure your drill is charged ). As above - use masking tape to ensure you don't skid with the drill bit. Only mod I did over AndrewS' instructions was to add a silicone bead around the gasket on the wing. I did buy a rather expensive rivnut tool but I'm looking to attach other things as well (window guards...). The X-eng version would definitely do the job. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Fitting a Mantec RAI is very easy - the hardest part is overcoming the fear. I managed it and I'm useless at fitting things.
What I found when I bought mine a few months ago is that when you go the Mantec site they give you a list of stockists, but they're cheaper if you buy direct from Mantec. (Also, in my experience of dealing with them if you request a cost via e-mail they will quote a lower postage price than if you phone them). Peter 2008 SWB Truck Cab 1952 80" Soft top |

Another Mantec here,, Fitted 3 of them now,, very easy,, half hour top whack,,
Use masking tape for the wing and A pillar holes, (non slip with the drill, and easy to mark the correct position) Also ran a bead of RTV around the vent hole California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

When people refer to the Mantec one, I assume they mean the "plastic jobby" (the 1-DPFL) i.e. this one
as opposed to Mantec's other one the 1-DPSV? However I always thought the Land Rover one was actually a Mantec Plastic Jobby anyway (just with a slightly different moulding and a LR Logo) it certainly looks very similar Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated MAD COW 2007 90 Hard Top - 2009 BMW F800GS - 2002 CCM 604E Dual Sport Project90 |

Yes, the plastic jobby, rather than the more traditional mushroom top. They do indeed make the Land Rover one, and if you get it fitted from new then it's covered by the warranty, otherwise you're paying just to have a LR logo. Peter
