Back to the thread. So today, having some spare time I looked in to why one of my spotlights has been working a little independently, turned out that the earth tab on the bulb holder had snapped off. I tried to solder a wire with a suitable connector onto the bulb holder but as it was made of die-cast muck it wouldn't stick so a bodge job was required. Just stripped off about an inch of insulation and threaded it around the wire retainer that holds the bulb in, bit of solder to keep the wires all together, sorted. The other spotlight on the A bar dismantled to empty the last of the Salisbury Plain puddle water, well when the water was lapping on the bulkhead there has to be some consequences. The air filter had a wet spot in it, I only have a raised air intake and never did intend to use it as a snorkel.
Still had some time left so I decided to put my newer winch cable on, my old one, whilst not ever been overworked is over 6 years old and is not looking very pretty, becoming very rusty. I pulled the old one off, disconnected the fixing to the drum, got the other one and fixed the end in place. Then the fun bit, dragged it out up the street in a straight a line as possible inbetween the parked cars. Look round to see if any neighbours about, before I trip them up or drive their motor on the cable. Right now winch in, all going well keeping some tension on, I'll respool it when I get the chance and space later, all of a sudden there was a snag winching in, as it came down the street the hook had snagged on a gully cover and flipped it open, the trouble with using wireless winch controllers is the delay in response of the winch, for more control I use the corded handset but the wireless one is less bulky. All got sorted, drain covers returned to position, no granny's dragged kicking and creaking down the street so a succesful outcome, much nicer when the sun is out as well. |

Still sunny and mild here, but next week will turn colder so the early morning salting brigades will come back in full force.
