took the wagon for a quick spin after work...give the dogs a run

56 by Defender 90, on Flickr Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

'Wow...! What a ride!

Quick question - how are you finding the ST Maxx for traction on the unsealed outback roads, particularly when it has been wet and you get sticky bits?
Thinking of a set of those (rather than more aggressive STTs) for my 90 for our Oz adventure, but not sure what they are like in muddy / wet / slippy conditions.

Cheers,
Pam

Pam, I have no experience of the ST Maxx but I do have two vehicles with STT's on - one of which I have driven 20K + miles in the last 4 years and I have found them excellent for road work, hardwearing, quiet, grippy, good siping for the wet and also very capable in the mud ...

Thanks GB, but I'm specifically looking for information about how the Maxx perform on Australian outback roads in the muddy conditions.

I'm doing 12K per year miles as a daily drive here in the UK so want the quietest, hardest wearing, most fuel efficient ones I can get - which means compromising on the off road ability. The ST Maxx are unusual as they are more aggressive than most 'AT' types and therefore seem to be a good option for my road use AND any off-road stuff. So the ST Maxx would be better bet for me than my Pirelli AT-Rs or an out and out MT tyre. However, I'm also planning a 4-6 month Australia trip so I want specific 'local knowledge' of how they will cope there, when we are solo travelling on unsealed roads.....

Cheers,
Pam

Changed the fuel filter on the Td5. The job went a lot smother than I was expecting given that it looks like it hasn't been changed for years. The fuel pump sounds noticibly quieter now and it seems to pick up a lot better through the lower gears too. Cool

Snap! Except I did this over the weekend. The old filter was rusty and stuck on there pretty tight. I'm just waiting for a nice free evening so I can change the oil and fit a DiffLock sump plug (which arrived this morning).

Finished fitting the D44 HD bumper, just need to fit the number plate and all done.

FF light bar bracket turned up today, nice finish, well made.

Update: The LED Bar is not going to fit on the light bar bracket, It may need to go back Sad

Quite a difference in the weather conditions for the sake of 20 miles.

Where are you putting the plate? On our 300 on the farm with a d44 bumper we put it on the panel just under the grill - fits just nicely

there's a couple of holes in the bumper already, so i'll either use the holes or dumdum the holes and use sticky pads. mine has the svx grill and a land rover genuine ribbed steering guard .. so i'm a bit limited.
