Had a catastrophe failure a while back
Which was a shredded input shaft so thanks to some folks on here I got the Ashcroft unit Started working on it today Ended up disconnecting the transfer case unit to make room Only tricky thing was trying lock the shaft in place to remove the big nut Ended up using a rattle gun which worked a treat - just kept the gear in 1st Then could not fit a puller into the casing so had to take the casing off But it was a to take off till I found a hodge. But under the 4WD gear stick After that it came off easy and we were able to get the pulled into position - Tomorrow just got to re- Assemble everything back Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

That female coupling in the Ashcroft box looks like it's got the slots in it. Have they updated it or is it an earlier set.

Evening all
I have just become the proud owner of this 110XS. 2013 model. Previous owner only did 15,000 miles and it was kept in a garage. My first Defender and so far i love it. Hoping to get much more use out of it and keep it as standard as i can, although I would love to fit a roof rack if anyone has any recommendations. |

Very nice. Not dissimilar to what my USW looked like when I bought it. Darren

Inlet manifold off again today to try fix the leak. New seals fitted this time. The amount of oily carbon build up in the manifold is quite bad, ideally needs a good chemical bath to clean it all out but havenβt got time for that and assuming it is coming via the egr it will only build back up again. Scraped out what I could with the time I had today.

The oily gunk is likely to be coming from the crankcase breather via the turbo and intercooler, and is the reason why many of us have fitted Provent filters. The carbon is more likely to be coming via the EGR. Overall the toxic abrasive mix your engine breathes in these environmentally-aware days is not good for longevity!

The crankcase breather as you mention was noted on the last service as likely being restricted and in need of replacement. Looks like it needs doing sooner rather than later then. I will look into the provent filter you have mentioned. Thanks!

Changed the grill surround from body colour to black (like the black pack) - should I do the wheel arches next
Kept the original in case I didn't like it, or change my mind Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Rob 1993 200tdi 90 hard-top 1998 300tdi 90 soft-top 2016 2.2 XS 90 hard-top (sold) |

I changed my front grill 4 times within the past 2 years... so definitely keep hold of the other set
I personally wouldn't change the arches, I think changing the front end is fine as it's a 2 second job to swap it about... I'd be a bit more nervous about changing the arches with the same frequency... and then where does it end |
