Don't know really. I do not use anything specific really other than a commercial rubber treatment spray or silicon spray, but not more than twice per year. My seals are all like new, no cracking or other aging signs at all. Now, 8.5 years old and 85K km, so it has been used. But, it never is parked really outdoors, I'd say 80% in dry garage, 20% under carport, limited direct sunlight, never at the seaside, so no salty winds. And it obviously is kept very clean. I don't know if some or all of those factors combined help keep it in condition, but nothing else I can think of really. Eric Edit - below is a picture of what I use a few times per year. But I have asked the question a few times if it is really effective to spray something on a thick rubber seal. It surely does not penetrate in our window seals, so is it really doing something? I never got a clear answer to that... Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw Last edited by ericvv on 26th Feb 2017 6:51pm. My youngest needs to learn to ride on two wheels this year so picked this 2nd hand bike up today in the defender for her to learn on she likes the colour pink and land rovers so this fit the bill perfectly.

Started fitting a Albright, heavy duty master cut out solenoid into the battery box. Rain stopped play.
Gave the brackets for the dog guard a coat of primer and then a top coat - now drying in the shed. Removed the rear carpet and foam mat as water had made its way through the rear side windows another job for tomorrow. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

My dad came round and what we call the 'bad garage' at the back of house where my New toy will go we changed the up and over door for barn doors... so it should fit in.

My dad did think about this for a bit and decided the way we did it... Oh well they seem fairly solid and look far better than the old up and over, Don't think is should make too much difference? |

It will drop, as there is no upwards 45 degree bracing to counteract the force of gravity. Typically there is a single upward facing brace or a K brace. I prefer the latter on gates and doors I've made before. A K bracing with triple hinges. But yes, swap those over. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Your braces are operating in tension, whereas you want them working in compression.
Swap them over and put three hinges on each - in line with and attached to the rails, not the panelling. |
