You'll probably be OK without the infamous top bolt, the large majority of them on Td5 starters end up chucked over the hedge! My last D2 never had one on, no problems in close on 100K miles in my ownership. Most people use a 5" ish 3/8" extension and wrench if they bother from what I've read.

Well done! One of ours did that once but never had the chance again. In the mean time a nice extending lead might be in order. |

Yesterday I was at the 60th year of the Cambrian rally. I was based at one of the Penmachno stages, on recovery duty.
Onto stage pulled a P38 2.5 followed by a cloud of steam from under the bonnet. Turned out top hose had popped! The owner soon got the hose cut down and refitted but needed water. In the back of the 110 was 5l tub of old tap water (certainly not drinkable) so that got donated towards the P38 and also 1 litre of Porsche antifreeze/coolant which had been in the back of the 110 for the last 5 years or so...just in case! No recoveries to do on our stage, so we went into the previous stage to lend a hand, but only one left and that was a Micra nose down into a ditch. With a quick tug from another 110 the Micra was out. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Did a tip run.
Replaced the drivers side door switch. Serviced the 110. New oil filters, air filter, fuel filter and new oil. Cleaned the engine down to try to track down the oil leak(s). Started off with a garden sprayer and some Roc degreaser and got the pressure up on the sprayer and proceeded to jet wash the engine starting at the top and then going to the bell housing and surrounding area. Finished with the Roc degreaser and then added to the sprayer some washing up liquid and some boiling water. Again pressure up and sprayed the engine down. Quite a lot of the gunk came off and then did another kettle full into the sprayer and gave it one last wash with hot water. Engine now cleaner. Fingers crossed I can track the leaks. The two main areas I think are; Rear half moon on rocker gasket (yet again) and front cam seal (yet again) 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Took the dogs for a walk up the hills behind Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders. Obviously we got there by Landy, a cracking wander on a cracking day.
