Today I tackled the rust on the front passenger door on the 110. Started like this

and finished like

While the door card was off, I gave it a scrub to remove the dried on mud.

Tomorrow, all being well will to drill the holes out for the door card studs and to spray some cavity wax in the box section.

So, that's two doors done, three to go! 1999 Defender TD5 110

Today finally got around to replacing the wrong switch I used as a fog light switch. I originally purchased an on-off but I should have got an off-mom switch instead - so now I have.

I had already ran two wires from the original wires upto the mudstuff dash, so now I am using the feeds from the original wires a couple of earth wires and also I had to take a feed from the wire yellow/red wire that goes into the standard LR Td5 relay for the rear fog light.

So now, I get the orange bar in the switch lighting up when in use and also the light on the dash board. I can also turn on the rear fog using the original switch. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Today's trip to Foleys was very successful, left home early at 7 and was there by 8.45, talked through everything I wanted and what was recommended to me by various sources with the man himself.

Had a good poke and a prod and we agreed that the work was justified and that it was a difficult case.

Long chat and a poke around his collection then left around 10:30 in time for a downpour, back over the QE2 Bridge then home for 12.30 so all in all nice day out Very Happy

Then spent the afternoon doing odd jobs and going through my now rather large pile of quotes.

More in detail analysis in my running restoration diary shortly.

Not on my 90 but Ifor trailer instead, I had some ideas in my head that I wanted to follow through with.

Very pleased with it in the end, serves a good purpose.
Quite time consuming to apply correctly though but at least it won't come off!

Yesterday, I took her for an mot. She passed with two advisories, missing bump stop and excessive play in panard rod bush. In the afternoon I took the family to see the dinosaur exhibition at royal armouries, which gave me a chance to test out the new gearbox with its fifth gear upgrade on the motorway. Cruising at 70mph is now effortless...very worth while mod Thumbs Up 2002 110 td5

Today I drilled the holes in the newly replaced lower door section for the door card clips to attach.
Injected some cavity wax into the door frame until it dribble out the drain holes.
Greased the window mechanism.
While I was playing with the door I also adjusted it so now it doesn't catch on the striker plate and is a bit more in-line with the body work

Left to do is replace the plastic cover between the door and the door card and to also re-instate the door seal.

Finally, I decided to fit the surrounds for the extra Carling switches to go in - need to buy about another 6 switches then the mudstuff dash will be complete, so roughly 17 switches.

Just had the 4 Hella 4000's (Spot and Driving Beam) wired through the Snorkel down to the interior. I like the work, I can use the OEM AUX switch for a factory look.

Entreq snow cover check/cleaning
For the first time since 2 years removed the Entreq snow cover and the plastic grill in order to check if any debris at all had entered the air intake and possibly block the rubber thingy which is supposed to drain any water out which enters the air intake. All is good, nothing at all entered the air intake in those 2 years. So just:

Took the whole thing off...

Checked for debris...

Cleaned it with a wet rag and towel dried it...

Put some Duralac anti corrosion paste in the holes where the SS screws will go, and reinstalled the plastic cover plus the Entreq cover...

Good for another year or so... Thumbs Up

Ah, ok...all those rally work/camping lights etc. I put those switches in my TD5 but split them so I have a few up front and three in the rear, for rear power, work lights and interior lights.

I am thinking of heated screen, mirrors & seats so may add another few up front too.

Cheers

Heated screen...yet another switch.....mmmmmm
I did consider some in the rear but I want the most used ones close to me. (they might still move)

I might still put some in the rear for charging points etc. I am also considering removing the middle rear seat and fitting a cubby box with some power sockets for charging and heated seat controls for the passengers. (but after I fix the leaking sunroof. 1999 Defender TD5 110

How did you take the wires out of the snorkel inside the engine bay? Did you have to drill a hole to take it out of the snorkel?
