Italy 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Zermatt Silver
My 110 runs at 134 km/h said the GPS....
Last sunday I installed a special air filter and the top speed is increased by about 3-4 km/h.
Now the 110 is to LR garage for some trouble, when it will be back to me I will test much better the top speed.
I don't like it very much original configuration because if I need to overtaking a car and I need to speed up, the engine start to slow down when I reach 130 km/h and it stop to 134 km/h. Matteo

I managed 90MPH in France. Then the speed limiter woke up and slowed things down a bit.

One thing I noticed is that it was easier to drive it at 80 in France than it was at 60 in England. Plus it ran better on French derv!

Kudos to AndrewS though! Bow down Your a braver man than me!

Mine did 160km/h last time I tried and it would have developed a bit more if the road wasn't so short Laughing
It's a remapped td5 with K&n filter. I'm sure that with a couple of other mods that could be increased further.

Humm,

Probably in a free fall, the Defender can reach the 200 KPH or even more.
Somebody like to try? You just need a fairy high cliff and a good parachute as Bomber said.

Cheers! Eduardo

I have a BAS remap. I have no idea if it has taken the speed limiter off, but there is no way I would go faster than 130 kmph with this medieval castle!
If I want to go fast, I take my CLK 500 (limited at 250 kmph though)! Boldly going nowhere

The reason why Land Rover installed a speed governer is not due to limitations of the Defender "Puma" but due to limitations of the drivers. The "Puma" can easily do 150 Kph. My "Puma" does 140 Kph GPS speed no problem with plenty of accelerator travel left. I Definately do not feel comfortable driving my Puma so fast. I reckon I could push it to 150 Kph GPS speed if I was loco. I have only done this speed once or twice overtaking on a straight road. It does not feel right or safe driving so fast in a vehicle as heavy and unaerodynamic as a Defender. My normal top speed on the highway is 90 to 100 Kph. Lifes a journey enjoy the ride.

I think it was actually governed by the tyres. They're rated to 82 - hence the limit. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

I don't feel safe on UK roads at anything above 70 in the Landy. Hit a rut or a hump on the motorway and its all over the place! Doesn't go above 60 now. And the fuel guage doesn't move as fast then either. Thumbs Up

That is true. The last 10 kmph cost you in gas about as much as the first 110 or 120. Confused Boldly going nowhere

But some of the tyre options available on the Puma are 'N' rated with is 87mph (I think - it might be 82).

I had a 90 50th (V8 Auto) before the Puma - that had a limiter on also - 99 mph, but standard fit on that was BF Goodrich All-terrians which were Q rated (99.5mph). Greg

Well you see before all this electronic gizmo stuff (up until the Tdi) it was something that was always built into Land Rover Diesels.

It was actually called the engine Wink 110 2.4TDCi
