1986 Defender 130 V8 Petrol HCPU Aintree Green

Shroppy's V8 127 Rebuild

This weekend I collected the 110s replacement, with the 110... felt a bit mean really.
She's a 1986 127, still running a 3.5 V8 on carbs

Chassis is pretty good, bulkhead not awful, it'll be a great hack until it's converted back into a DCPU onto a Galv chassis most likely.

If anyone has any of the necessary bits lurking about, please drop me a message.

Bit of an update...

Had a bit of a think and decided the RPi 4.6 V8 and R380 I was going to use in my 88" S1 would be much better suited to the 130.

Also took the Christmas break as an opportunity to collect some bits for the rebuild, thankful for the Seat daily.
A friend tipped me off to a set of four Exmoor Trim seats, one of the bases has a tear but hopefully the trim shop near me can fix that.

Managed to find a double cab roof (albeit with a bit of a dent on the drivers side that will need pulling out with a ratchet strap once fitted), and a few other panels including some puma doors locally. Very happy chappy!

A trip to Anglesey to collect a Hicap rear tub and rear bulkhead, they were just round the corner from Red Wharf Bay!

Richard's 130 chassis will be on order soon, still need to find a good TDCI bulkhead, wings and bonnet, TD5 seatbox, rear seatbox and late TD5 dash..
But the shopping list is getting smaller.

Unsure whether to go Wolf/TDCI rear axle or stick with a disc Salsibury?

Collected the new chassis and, the paint has arrived....

Just need to finish the axles and order the suspension

Another piece of the puzzle, a (mostly) rust free 300tdi bulkhead complete with dash, pedal boxes etc.

Well Covid-19, Univeristy work and other challenges had stopped any progress until last week.

The chassis is now painted, no mean feat as it's chuffing huge. Process was as follows;

- Wash and de-grease.

- Provide mechanical key using red scotchbrite (this took me and the girlfriend 3 hours).

- Prime with 2 coats of Jotun Penguard HB (5 litres in total).

- Topcoat with 2 coats of Jotun Hardtop AX (3.6 litres in total).

I quite enjoy spraying but, won't rush to do a chassis again, lots of little corners and fiddly bits.

I have a ruck of leave left to take so hopefully will be able to get to the rolling chassis stage reasonably quickly. Just need to weigh up whether its worth having all the suspension linkages galvanised.... 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

They are that thick unless you plan on parking in the sea I wouldn’t bother, fresh coat of paint and a layer of dinitrol will be fine

Good point, I'm guilty of thinking "well, whilst I'm here".

I also collected a set of doors from Badger110 (great guy) and a seatbox the weekend before last so the list of bits needed is slowly reducing. Forgot to take photos of that though

Moved the chassis back indoors in preparation for the axles to be fitted over the next few weeks;

Hopefully the axles and gearbox will start to take shape this week, trying to get things moving at a reasonable pace now that University is out of the way for the time being.

Does anyone have any thoughts on colour? I'm leaning towards Montalcino red for a bit of sophistication.... 1985 127 V8 Build Thread
