MY11, so July builds onwards ish from memory. Just check the V5/taxdisc if you buy scond hand, no tax disc you can check the VIN plate for the right digit, google for details - they changed it when the re-classigied. Disco 3 gone but the memory of the bills remain...

Given the parameters that the replacement engine has to meet does it not narrow the field a little?
It has to be EU5 compliant and it has to fit into the existing Defender set up. Cannot see them doing a complete transmission change if there will be a new model on the horizon in the not too distant future. Gone are the days when people found ingenious ways of shoe horning any lump imaginable into the Defender engine bay, so Land Rover will have to fit something similar to the existing unit. It will have to have similar dimensions as there is not a lot of spare room in there with all the plumbing etc. They will want to do as little work as possible to get it in. Also it will have to be compatible with the existing gearbox arrangement. No doubt they have been in touch with engine manufacturers to see what is available and what they can do with it to make it suitable for the Defender. Only hope they have not been in touch with Briggs and Stratton regarding their "compact" units! So I am assuming you can rule out V6's and V8's. So if not the Ford 2.2 anyone any guesses as to what they could possibly go for! Good one for the pub with the lads I think! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Wow - Looks like I have got one of the first 2.2's off the production line.
Only picked my 110 up last Friday, assumed it would be the 2.4 but with all this talk of the 2.2 I thought I should check. Lifted the hood and surprise, surprise Click image to enlarge Pulls like an Ox on steroids and averaging 106 MPG, hoping to get a little more out of it once everything has bedded in.... So what is the difference between the 2.4 and 2.2 engine? same 6 spd. gearbox? Is there any power differences at all?
