Someone was selling them on here a while ago, I saw then in the states...I would buy them for the cool factor but they are warn expensive

I'm sure being Warn that they are good solid products, however, I'm going to get controversial here.
I think they look like Tonka Toy versions.  1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I don't see the point in paying extra for looks on a shackle or hook. Cheers

Well the hook may be as it's visible on the car most of the time, but shackles no.  |

Whilst that shackle and hook may be more expensive then a lot of similar items in the market place , even if they look like 'Tonka Toys' they are from a reputable manufacturer you can be reasonably assured that they are fit for purpose and meet or exceed any legal requirements.
What I would be more concerned about is the so called 'equipment' at the other end of the market place. So called straps which are rated by the weight of the vehicle it can tow on a flat level road. Gives no indication of the strap UTS or MBS. Recovery hooks without a WLL or safety catch A 5 tonne strap with a lower UTS .then the UTS on a 2 tonne WLL strap. The 5 tonne strap has a safety factor of 1.2 or UTS of 6 tonne whereas the 2 tonne strap has a safety factor of 7 or a UTS?MBL of 14 tonnes. Items declared as E marked and road legal without correct approval markings. Buy cheap, risk your life, and pay 2 or 3 times over. Brendan |

there are plenty of other SWl and WLL shackles hooks out there no where near these prices from reputable suppliers. Cheers

I don't think the original post was about buying cheapo unbranded hooks. It was simply about Warn's 'premium' hooks and shackles compared to their standard ones. I mean the hook Warn supply as standard with their winches will be good quality and fully safety rated. These standard hooks appear expensive compared to budget ones for that reason, but their premium ones are even more expensive for little more benefit than asthetics. |

They are simply 'premium' just that, I haven't looked into specs specifically but being from Warn you can trust they are fit for purpose.
The costs is pretty much a brand price tag, and aesthetic pleasing. Many often PC or paint them too, again for astetic reasons because they are highly visible. What's the point you may ask? Well... if use them, of course they will damage the finish but who cares? They can be refinished, easy as that. As they are designed some of them fit for use for say Ford F-250's (as a example) that are massively heavy they certainly can take Defender weights no problem. A bigger concern would be to me, is not specs or looks of them or any of that. But the that fact they are removable in minutes and are not cheap at all. A bit like leaving a few £50 notes on your front ready to to steal, and if you have to keep them off for that very reason and only use them when needed well that is besides the point. Metal shackles are a bit 2010. The Dyneema soft shackle is where it's at, There is a few areas of high wear e.g. strop to pulley block where there is a sharp edge but IMHO for weight saving and higher strength then the soft shackle is best.

soft shackles can also fit into car recovery points which i have found to be an issue with some shackles. Cheers
