I had some shopping vouchers from work as a xmas bonus, only £15 worth but, better than a kick in the pants, I was looking to get shot of them, so whilst browsing Argos I saw the Gopro bacpac lcd screen was eventually back in stock and decided to take the plunge.... Sooooo glad I did, it totally transforms the camera, I would only be using the screen when shooting home videos etc. where spare batteries are on hand as it does eat up battery power rather quickly, but it is such a great addition and gives the gopro a whole new feel, anyone else tried one? thoughts? Optimists say the glass is half full..
Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |

OK, ive uploaded my video to youtube but doing so has vastly reduced the video quality. I created the movie on my MacBook using iMovie where it allows me to upload the video straight to youtube. Perhaps I should just save it to my hard drive in its highest quality and then upload it?

That happened to me on my iMac too
I tried a download programme, I think it was called wondershare or something like that and it was loads better. My YouTube channel is closed because of google |

Thanks GREENI, I spent yesterday familiarising myself with navigating through the settings, then today I mounted it to my mountain bike and went for a ride. I set it up using the iPhone app, what a brilliant app, very useful
Im really pleased with the H3B, just got to fathom out uploading to youtube whilst maintaining 1080P so I can share my film with you. |

Don't know anything about iMovie as I've never used it, however, if you are able to change the export settings (usually better to export to first and then upload to YouTube manually), try changing the export settings to;
Video File Format: MP4 Frame (Resolution): 1920x1080 Frame Rate: 29.970 (same as 30fps) Field Order: None - Progressive (this is the i or p in 1080i or 1080p) Variable bit rate: Max bps 24,000,000 Variable bit rate: Average bps 12,000,000 Audio Sample rate: 48,000 bit rate (bps): 192,000 It's about as good as you'll get for YouTube. Just also remember that once a YouTube video has uploaded, you'll only get Low resolution for the first few minutes while the compression and coversions are done by the YouTube servers. The HD options will follow slightly later on. One thing to note too, don't be tempted to set your GoPro up for "UK" or "PAL" settings, thats old school stuff, bung it on NTSC as you'll then get 30fps or 60fps at 1080 instead of 25fps and 50fps which means more frames to play around with. Also not sure if iMovie can handle 60fps editing, if not, it'll drop frames in the editor and edit them at 30fps. However, if it's clever enough, you should still be able to slow 60fps down to 30fps without loosing frames. (That's why I don't use Corel anymore as it's not clever enough!). Hope this helps. Thanks for the advice. Ive just noticed in the iMovie settings that it does infact downgrade the video quality when exporting straight to youtube. Ive now exported it to my hard drive in its original 1080P form, and will try uploading it again. Stand by....

The movie is processing as we speak, takes a while though. Exciting isnt it, shame my video is boring!

Lets see whose is the worst then
3 minutes left for iMovie to finish processing, then the time it takes to upload to youtube and have the HQ quality added. I reckon I'm building the suspense too much, it could/will be a massive anticlimax |

Well here it is. Not the most exciting video, so ive added some intensive music to compensate. Though there is a heart stopping moment when a Transit van nearly pulls out on me, a few killer ducks and some attack dogs, and quite a steep hill to ascend.....
I didn't have Protune active, perhaps I should? Recorded in 1080P 60fps. And ive managed to get youtube to accept it in 1080P |

Only record in Protune if you are going to do things like colour correction, contrast/brightness changes either before editing or during editing as protune records very "flat" so that you have more control over the final video. It's similar, but not quite, to still camera Raw files. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |
