Is it all really going wrong because of MPs wages..... as above- they should be paid more- way more. At the end of the day you could have a very successful businessman who would make the PERFECT representative for your area.... Why would he give up £200K and full expenses to take up a job for £65K?.... or even £100K without expenses. You get what you pay for...... Why didn't you all go out and buy a Suzuki Jimny... It is about £10K cheaper than a Defender- that is right- you wanted the best.
I shouldn't get into my political views..... Parents shouldn't get a pennies worth of help.... people who have never worked should go very hungry, if you are able to work you shouldn't get a penny from the state, Old people should be supported by their family not the state, capital punishment for clear cut serious crimes, immigrants, national service etc. Why does the state owe someone anything when they have never done anything for the state?.... Simple- you get out what you put in. Just my 2p....... I understand many of you will have different views, but these are mine and have no intention on forcing them on you (also, no offence intended). im sorry but that view is at the extreme of wrong, but im glad we live in a country that allows you to have it.
Business and capitalism, certainly unchecked, is what has got us into this mess - so Business inst the savour to get us out or run the country The welfare state is one of our best legacies and we should defend it. I dont want to pay higher tax band rates so that people never work...but Im happy to pay to maintain the system, support and all the things that it can do, including pensions, NHS, unemployment etc. - we have social and moral responsibilities and should want to live where all have opportunities and protections not just those that can afford it or fall on luck etc What we need is a radical rethink of both the financial, captial systems as well as how we treat, employ people - how the government - local, national and quango's are run not to reduce them...but to make them operate better - which is simple if you look at it. I believe you can get almost everything we used to do, say in 06, as a country by the state delivered without loosing any real staff but reorganising how its done and how things work together. so would i pay MP's more probably, would that = less expenses, yes would they not have second homes etc, yes Mike |

Everything else asides with my experiences of 'Service life' we still live in a civilised society. Our generosity with welfare benefits should perhaps be reserved for those that have contributed I agree but we are heading towards 'dodgy ground' with all the political correctness and 'softly sofly' approach we are all forced to embrace. Maybe we should take a similar stance to Australia......'nuff said I think.
There are many many places around the World where the value of life is less than that of a loaf of bread where people have to eak out a living from the dirt. I certainly do not begrudge MPs their wage to ensure we continue to live in a relatively stable and civilised country. Most problems here are minor compared to those of others. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I think the salary is too low at the moment so we have the current selection.
If we want the brightest minds of our generation to run the country then they have to be attracted to the job in hand and whilst some would do it for the privilege of serving most require renumeration. A few years ago I met with my local MP to discuss an issue around our business and he was unable to grasp the simple context of what I was trying to convey. I voted for someone else at the next election . (Didn't work ) Party politics has to take some of the blame for the shower that we get with solid labour or Tory areas voting along party lines for their candidate irrespective of the merits of the individuals. I would like to see a lot more conscientious independent candidates standing on local issues. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

Yes I love the fact that everyone is supported but at the same time...
We can start at state pension...
This was when life expectancy was 50 Years old- therefore the small (tiny) minority got to that point and therefore the government wasn't paying out much. Now, pension is over £100 a week and is paid out from 65 even though the average life expectancy is over 80. In other words the majority of the nation will get this. I know many people over 65 who could more than easily still work. With that.... there are more old people- which is a huge drain on the NHS. The NHS costs the tax payer over £100 BILLION a year (more than the Australian national debt). Even people from other countries fly to the UK for operations... We can't send them back as that is classified as immoral. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Job seekers allowance and child tax credits are also costing us a large fortune- I know several families that will be better off if they quit their jobs and moved onto benefits-WTF! Click image to enlarge as you can see, the debt is ramping up-we are just short on having 100% our GDP in Debt.... that is over £ 1 TRILLION- Greece hit rock bottom at 150% GDP. Some will remember the problems in the 70's.... We were running a 6% GBP deficit.... we are currently at 9-10%. The reason we can carry on at the moment is because borrowing rates are soo low (2%ish). Back in the late 40's the GDP of UK was just over 13 billion and we were lucky enough to have good friends (US) to loan us some money..... but doubt they can help us with 1 trillion!!..... What next? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/1721103.stm THis is something I have been following quite closely as it is one of the main reasons I am looking to emigrate Glyn |
