N1 and MOT's
Anyone point me in the direction of previous threads concerning the implications of the N1 classification and MOT class? Namely N1 110 USW's, dual purpose or come under Class 7 test?

TIA. Steve.

Lots of threads on the subject.

Any standard Defender is a dual-purpose vehicle and it would appear that the proposal by VOSA to scrap the concession which for years has allowed DPVs to undergo a Class IV MOT, although widely reported as imminent a year or two ago, has never been implemented. Therefore to the best of my knowledge you still require only a Class IV MOT.

If you have modified your Defender to the extent that the unladen (note, not kerb) weight is over 2040kg then it is no longer a DPV and will definitely require a Class 7 MOT.

My dealer and the local garage both told me that mine will only need the standard MOT when it's due. John

Yeah I did a quick search but busy as hell meant I couldn't spend long.

My 110 USW will be due its first MOT around March next year and am currently weighing up whether to chop it in or keep for a bit longer mindful that I'm going to be doing a fair amount of towing shunting stuff around for a while at some point early in the new year. I don't want to get a new one only to find it's a lemon and waste valuable time trekking back and forth to the dealer 50 miles away getting stuff sorted and being further inconvenienced with unsuitable courtesy vehicles. Been there, done that, not good for my blood pressure or anger management. Steve.

Steve

For my N1 2009 Double Cab the MOT certificate states 'Test Class - IV'.
