Knock from underneath
I exerience a loud knocking noise from underneath when travelling on broken or corrugated roads. It seems to be present in hot conditions but not noticable when cold, such as in the mornings. I have checked the exhaust and it is well clear of the brake drum. Has anyone any ideas?
Thanks,
Austen.

Try applying the hand brake very slightly in the same conditions and see if produces the same symptons, if so it may the handbrake adjustment, I am told the return spring is being replaced as well as issues with drums.

As the heat in the drive train builds up the handbrake catches the drum and you get a thump and knocking noise.

Thanks Sticky. I just tried pulling the handbrake on 1 click whilst driving and it seems to make the clonk (experienced when gear changing) worse. You may be onto the reason for the clonk!

The noise is still there - it's like someone knocking on the floor or the cubby box.

It turned out to be the bonnet hinge bushing. Took ages to locate the noise, but I remembered my old Series 11A made the same noise.
