Try applying the hand brake very slightly in the same conditions and see if produces the same symptons, if so it may the handbrake adjustment, I am told the return spring is being replaced as well as issues with drums. As the heat in the drive train builds up the handbrake catches the drum and you get a thump and knocking noise. |

Thanks Sticky. I just tried pulling the handbrake on 1 click whilst driving and it seems to make the clonk (experienced when gear changing) worse. You may be onto the reason for the clonk!
The noise is still there - it's like someone knocking on the floor or the cubby box. Austen. |

It turned out to be the bonnet hinge bushing. Took ages to locate the noise, but I remembered my old Series 11A made the same noise.
