Today I noticed that one of the rear passenger doors (110 station wagon) was not locking when all the other doors were locked. The push button was not going down far enough. As a purely emergency measure I put some general purpose oil down behind the push button.Anyway it worked. So I did the same to the rest of them. When I am next at the dealer I will get it checked out but if this works it will save me going down specially. I have tried it a number of times and it is working o.k.Thought I would mention it incase someone else has the same problem.
Also I remember people mentioning about their handbrakes getting hot.Last week while driving in some very cold weather I noticed my handbrake lever getting hot.I just felt it while driving.I turned off the heat and it cooled down-so did I.It seems it is caused by the hot air hitting off the bear metal on the handbrake lever. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

I'll do you a swap, my remote is crap. I have to be so close for it to work, I might as well use the key. New batteries don't help.

Mine too. 3 meters if i'm lucky. Did you know holding the remote fob to your temple extends its range? You then act as an aerial to the thing and you can ping you lock at 5 - 6 meters. God knows what it's doing to my brain. If i have one. |

I think I'll struggle on. Don't want the men in white coats to come knocking.

As demonstrated by Clarkson on Top Gear... hold it against your head and push the button. Vastly improves the range of the plip.
Otherwise, mines like ever other one, 3 metres is about it! All the same its a lot better when running for the car in a tropical storm, to be able to unlock with a press as you approach the Defender. 110 2.4TDCi 110 300Tdi LROCV ::: AULRO.com |

Same here but 3-5 mt only in environment without any radio interference. In the city should be 1 meter, no more.
and as the others it is not sensitive at all RgrBox. maybe your remote are not working well Courious why LR has not improved the range of the remote lock or at least paid us a contorsionist course to get more range. I can't believe we're having this conversation about the range of our remote central locking for DEFENDERS!
For the record, mine is also limited in range and angle of approach. "head shot" works well and so can "shooting from the hip". I'm just chuffed I can do it remotely at all One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

The range was reduced to stop undesirables from scanning your remote frequency. 2.4 90 XS

What kills me, is that the damn thing will go off in my pocket, and lock the truck while I'm trying to take something out.. but i have to bang on the damn button several times to open it when I want to open it????

The remote having limited distance is a fault. Mine would only work when right above the engine bay, no good if you need to open the back.
The dealer was going to change the ECU (as advised by Landrover Technical) when removed they found the antenna lead had come out of it's socket, more than likely during installation. Works from a greater distance like any other car now. Unfortunatly I do not know the exact position of the ECU, I am guessing it is behind the drivers instrument cluster as thets where my fob worked best. Would like to hear if this info solves the fault on other vehicles BR, Niglyn |

The ECU is under the driver's seat. I wonder how obvious the aerial is? I haven't looked for it.
