I think the organisors of Billing should be looking at an alternative venue right now as it clearly is not going to be ready!
There must be quite a few places with long areas of hard standing that could be obtained at short notice, old airfields etc or there will be a lot of dissapointed campers, customers and traders!

Act now while there is still time!!

I can't see how they would be able to find another venue. Even places with hardstanding (like airfields and showgrounds) will be a problem as it is the grassy bits that cause the main probems - the bits needed for cars / vans / lorries / caravans to park and cross. There really isn't anywhere that has enough hard standing for a full big show like Billing to accommodate the show stands plus all the parking and camping grounds.

Look at how many shows that have hardstanding areas that have had to be cancelled - including the Great Yorkshire Show which is a permanent showground - the parking is all on fields that normally drain reasonably well - but there has been just too much rain and the ground is soaked to a much deeper level than normal, even for winter. This means even if the top dries out, once you cut the surface with tyres you are in mud!

Yes, many shows have been cancelled this year, including the Great Yorkshire Show, the C:A Game Fair and lots of smaller ones. The Isle of Wight festival also hit the headlines due to traffic jams/car parks, also the F1 race at Silverstone suffered as well.

However this is the current met office forecast for the relevant period.

Quote:

UK Outlook for Friday 20 Jul 2012 to Sunday 29 Jul 2012:
After a brighter day for many on Friday, changeable weather is likely to continue, with rain pushing across many areas over the weekend. There are signs of a gradual shift of the heaviest and most persistent rainfall towards northern and western areas of the United Kingdom through the following week, where it may also be windy at times. Meanwhile there are indications for drier, more settled weather to affect the south at times, although there is still a risk of some rain, even here. Temperatures mostly near or a little below normal in the north and west but probably above average in places in the brighter spells elsewhere, with the prospect of some pleasant, more seasonal conditions at times, especially towards southern and central areas.

So fingers crossed folk.

The UK could do with a GOOD indoor 4x4 show, however places which could hold such an event (such as the NEC) are extremely expensive! Somehow I do not think either the trade or the public could afford NEC type prices.

Me? Well I will just carry on packing trailers and hope for the best.

Sad to say it but I think a Land Rover show is the worst possible type of show for these conditions. Way too many people without a clue who think they will be able to drive and just churn it up and make a mess. At least with a normal car show most people will accept the fact they can't drive on the grass and avoid it, sticking to the tarmac roads.

Eastnor show was cancelled several years ago after the fields/campsite was churned to Censored by people pointlessly "driving" to the shower and toilet blocks.

Yes I was camped not far from the showers and some peoples driving was at best uncalled for and enthusiastic! Mine never moved until we left that weekend but by Sunday afternoon the whole place had been churned up.

I'm looking forward to having a Land Rover Show back over this side of the country, I was at the last LRO one at Malvern and the last Eastnor one only as a day visitor last time, could this year be a repeat weatherwise? Whistle

Whoops, meant to put this in the Eastnor thread(must stop just pressing the "back button")
