Hi Laurie,

Is it possible to make the hole without removing the tank? I keep thinking of preparing for when mine needs replacing.

I would be interested in any photo's or measurements once yours is finished if that is possible?

Thanks,

Steve

Will try. I'm not doing it myself. Gave up laying in puddles after my 60th birthday Wink

New Bearmach fuel pump fiitted and noise has gone away.
Had to remove tank as there's a stiffening rib under the floor directly over the pump. Would have weakened the floor cutting through it.

I presume that injector seals make the noise emanate from the engine bay, faulty pump from underneath the tank? Is this correct?

I think the injector seals let air pass through the pipe, leading to air getting sucked through the pump, making funny noises.

I think.... Question Question

If the injector seals are leaking, does the diesel not get into the engine oil, and so show up by giving a higher reading on the engine oil dipstick? 1996 Defender 130 converted to TD5 and auto

No, it allows the air that is compressed in the cylinder back into the fuel system.

The seals would have to be very bad, or have a cracked head to get diesel in the fuel.

I've had an extremely noisy pump for the past 2 years, the injector seals went along with oil in the injector harness. I had tose done and since then just lived with it, if it packed up then I'd change it, wasn't going through the rigmarole of tank out if I didn't have to. I changed the pressure regulator seals about a fortnight ago and that didn't make a difference to the pump noise but on Tuesday night I filled it up to allmost full, I don't often put in much more than half a tank but as I had a long run yesterday I didn't want the hassle of getting diesel through the day. Ever since then it has run quietly even when the level in the tank is down low again. Now we'll see if it's on it's last legs or it has gone through a self healing process Whistle

Hello all, I had the same problem with a noisy pump that had the internal filter clogged, I cleaned and works perfectly now.

It also starts whining when the fuel filter is dirty. Augusto

Thanks for the reply. Think I'll change the seals as only getting 16mpg Big Cry and the pump is noisy.
Being a 130 tipper it is easy to get to the pump Thumbs Up

Noticed that the filter head had broken away from the chassis, what is the best place to buy on e from?
