Same here. Sad
My fitters say they were the wrong colour for genuine.

What colour should they be, and waht is the difference, can you find out?

It seems atleast three of us have bought 'genuine' seals from the same place recently, yours and Big Steve's have failed (not fitted mine yet).

I queried the fact that the seals came loose in a plain envelope, and that there was no way of telling if they were genuine or not - they could just have easliy been the cheaper britpart ones that the supplier sells as well Evil or Very Mad

These are the seals I was sent as being genuine. Can anyone tell from the photo if they are or aren't?

steve

Initially my Defender took a lot of turning over to start. A few miles later it died completely.
Can't answer about the colour until my repairers are back at work next Wednesday.
I did have the pump (Bearmach) replaced at the same time, could be that but unlikely.

I think we've been conned.
I'll leave it 'til my repairers inspect it properly on Wednesday and act on whatever they say.

New genuine seals from a dealer will be green. I think at one point they may have been a different colour, red/brown spring to mind but I could be wrong.

If they are "genuine" seals I see no reason for them to be sent loose as they come individually bagged so no splitting up would be required. It would make me suspecious as to the origin of them if they arrived loose.

Without scaremongering, if you have changed the seals and are getting diesel in the oil and you find the seals look ok there is a chance that you have a crack in the head. Believe it or not it is surprisingly easy to do when you remove and replace injectors without the correct tools. If the injectors are not removed and refitted squarely and pressure is applied to the injector forcing it against machined cavity in the head it can cause a crack through to the fuel rail gallery.

I believe land rover released a service bulletin detail this as they had a large number of warranty claims for this issue.

Mine were changed by a very experienced, properly equiped garage that I've used for all my Land Rover repairs for more than 20 years.

As I haven't fitted mine, I am sending them back. Glad I saw this thread.

The seller said to me that they buy them in packs of 100 so need to split them to sell 5 at a time - that's why they were loose.
He also said if they had been the cheaper ones that they sell, they would have been in a blue bag.

Make of that what you will. If anyone wants to know the supplier then pm me. 1996 Defender 130 converted to TD5 and auto

I fitted mine myself but it about the 10th set I've fitted other my td5 vehicles using proper injector bars to remove them
It does seem very strange that two vehicles have failed with the same seals in a matter of miles after fitting ?

If they are not supplied like this, then don't bother. Not sure how much you paid/saved but you should be able to get the all for around £30 straight from LR dealer, seems the safest and easiest way to ensure you have the correct ones.
