Hazard lights switch
Just a quickie...

Used the park anywhere lights this afternoon, and all the lights on the dash flashed as they should (red triangle, trailer light and direction lights) but the hazard button itself didn't flash. Is it meant to?

No biggie if it is I guess, just I'm sure it did at one point.

Take a look at this thread
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic12482.html

Pretty sure that the hazard button itself does not flash, just the red triangle on the dash plus both left/right green turn signal lights will flash.

But my hazard button itself is not even backlit when the lights are on, sitting there as a black spot in the middle of the green backlit buttons. From the above thread seems that is definitely wrong. Still not resolved though.

By the way, is it possible to pop out the hazard switch button from the dash without removing the center console cover? Or is it necessary to unscrew the entire cover (2 screws) and remove? If the button by itself can be removed easily, anyone can say how? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Damn. Always end up missing threads like that, I need to up my defender2 addiction again.

Just tried it now, mines only backlit with the lights on, and doesn't blink with the hazards on. Must have just been having a subconcious flashback to another car...

I think if you remove the radio you can push the buttons out from behind. I know you definately can with the rear window demist as I knocked it out when trying to tidy the wires up a bit when I changed the stereo.

Just ordered some replacement bulbs part# STC1205 from Rimmerbros in UK as PaulMc suggested in the other thread. If the dealer apparently does not know what to do and pretends the hazard switch is not backlit Rolling Eyes , we will try to solve it ourselves Thumbs Up

Just not looking forward to loosen the center console cover in order to extract the hazard switch though Confused You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

The centre dash isn't hard to remove and replace at all. Have a look in my gallery and you will see it removed. It will also give you an idea of how it does remove by seeing the clips ect. Thumbs Up

I'm pretty sure the switch does pop out. If not, the centre treatment console is really easy to remove. The two T30 bolts and then you have 6 push fit clips. Two either side at the very top. Pull this out first and work down. Two more near the windows switches and two at the bottom which you shouldn't have to take out anyway. Thumbs Up

Edit : Beat me to it Laughing
