Steering play
I have two questions. When I am on or near full lock there is a couple of inches free play on the steering wheel. This only appears at these positions. Is this normal. Also I have been advised to drive hard regularly to keep the injectors clear. Can anyone advise anything more specific ie how often, how high should I rev it etc. Advice much appreciated

My 110 is going to the dealers on monday for them to have a look at the steering, (amongst other things), for the same issue. Although if you can, have a look at the bushes on the steering damper, my ones were very loose.

As for the drive it hard advice, I'm not so sure about that. It is not a good idea to let a diesel idle for long periods of time, but I certainly wouldn't thrash it to make up the balance. If you do idle your engine quite a bit I'd be doing oil changes more frequently instead.

What do you mean by a couple of inches of play? In which plane?

I guess you don't mean that you can turn the wheel back and forth a couple of inches near full lock. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

The steering play is in the rotation of the steering wheel. It is about 1" in the center and 3" at full lock. It's much more noticable with the engine stopped.

Cheers,

Tim

TimmyNZ is right although there doesnt seem to be any play at centre. There is 3/4 inches play on one lock, 2/3 on the opposite lock. I think Ill have the dealer check to see if it is in spec.

Any advice on the driving hard issue?

This is kind of related, but sort of not.

Should all MY07+ models have a steering Damper?

My SVX does not, which I find Odd.
