Starting Issue - bit concerning. *** FIXED***
Hi guys,

Right got a starting issue here, let me run you through it.

Key in, wait for glow plug light to extinguish, crank. engine starts up runs for a second then dies.

Key in, wait for glow plug light to extinguish, crank, engine starts up fine, throttle applied, slight splutter, rpm picks up then runs fine and no issue for the rest of the day.

Has only happened yesterday and now this morning.

Its weird because it is still starting on its first revolution so its still happy, its just not running after the initial start but it is running fine once you have given it a slight rev and then for the rest of the day it will happily run, pulls fine, no more smoke than usual for a Tdi.

I have a theory it is an electrical issue - ether glow plug related or stop solenoid issue - how can I test this?

Only other thing I can think of is knackered injector or lift pump issue but if it was surely it wouldn't run happily?

Any thoughts welcome Smile

G-Mack you brilliant mind you! Thumbs Up

Had a look in and felt the pipes, guess what , no 4 was loose (again) and its spill of pipe has been rubbing on one of the High pressure injector pipes and looks like it has a weep so new ones on order and everything tightened up and moved clear.

Hopefully that should be the end of it!

new ones on order ? you can get the pipe from any motorfactors in one metre lengths and just cut to what you want , normally about 3-4 quid

Good Point, will give them a ring and cancel the order.

Would that clear nylon pipe do ad a stop gap until it arrives?

I don't fancy leaking diesel into the engine bay or worse on the road.

Ohh did not know that! Thanks for the heads up!

Will toddle down to Halfords once the delivery man and the shed man have been.

One of those days - "we will deliver/collect between 8:30 and 17:00"

As one of mine was on its way to loose I have a feeling the Copper washers have work hardened a bit so will make some new ones on Monday Very Happy

If its not the nuts, blame the hose! Whistle

Me too Very Happy makes a welcome change to have an issue at 7.30, diagnose it at 10, and fix it by 11!
