2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Stornoway Grey

Wiring Wipac SVX lights?

Can anyone help me? I just bought from offroadrovers a pair of SVX 7" headlights to go into a standard Defender 90 XS. Opening the box I can see the SVX light has a built-in side light and there is a red and black wire from this bulb. Is it as simple as picking up the existing defender side-light wiring and connecting? Therefore having two lights when the existing sidelight is switched on?

Any help would be much appreciated.

That's what I did with mine, just chained them off the sidelight. Naughty I know, but the total draw is something like 0.75A on a wire that's already well oversized.

Thanks - I'm planning on replacing the SVX internal sidelight with an LED bulb and the existing sidelight with a 207 LED bulb, do you know if that will work?

That will work fine, the LED lamps will reduce the current below that of one normal bulb anyway.

Don't do it. The heat generated by the main/dip beam inside the enclosure will take the LED sidelight way outside it's operating temperature spec. It will not survive very long.

The LED in the existing external side light will be fine.

The Main bulbs go upto something like 220'C if I remember correctly

Too true, and a standard 5050 SMD LED is operating outside its comfort zone above 85C.

Easy to not realise though! LED type bulbs also tend to be plasticky often too. Personally I don't like LED's seem too directional on light output to me
