I like to replace the original one by a multi level switch for greater comfort. It should fit in the original dashboard position and shouldn't destroy the Defender look'n'feel too much.

I don't know of any switch that would directly replace the heated seat switches and perform the function you describe.


However, I have thought of a couple of options that might work -

1. If you don't have headlamp levelling fitted, you could use a modified headlamp levelling switch as a temperature control for both seat heaters -




A knob with a plain line instead of the headlamp symbol is available, Part No. YUM10001 (Rover) & YUM10001L (Land Rover) -




I believe that the Defender headlamp levelling switch has resistors built in, these would probably not be suitable to use with the load of the seat heaters.

The Rover 100/Metro used a heater fan speed selector switch of the same dimensions as the headlamp levelling switch, which had no resistors built in and used an external resistor with multiple taps to control the speed of the fan, but it has a Fan symbol on its scale.

2. Another option would be to modify the heated seat switches to be non-latching switches.

This can be done by either swapping the switch cap onto a live-switching non latching switch body, or you can remove the latching pin from the switch's mechanism.

With this done, you would use the non-latching switch to increment the output of something like this -

I suppose that the heaters (back and rest) on the original LR seats are electrically connected in "series".

If you install the trigger you can connect the heaters electrically in "parallel". In this way you can have more max warm.
