T1G - each to their own I use a Numax to charge the electric model planes the boys fly.. good leisure battery. I'm going to install the 2x 1500s and a VSR based management unit - I don't intend to fit a winch. |

*Deleted* Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

My Red top has been in 2 Land Rovers and is still starting my 110 which stands for weeks at a time and is 5 years old. Its been shorted, flattened and quick charged, so I would suggest that either yours was a dud or I have been really lucky! 2002 Defender 110 DC |

I think that I must have got a good one, as it seems the general consensus is Optima's aren't all they are hyped to be.
Oddessey look to be the firm favorites at the moment so that will be what I will go for next. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

Optimas used to be considered to be the dogs dangly bits some years ago
Odysseys now appear to have that title Which brand of battery will have that title in 5 - 10 years time??? I am sure that since we have gone from wet lead acid, to sealed lead acid, to gel to AGM batteries that in a few years time we will have a new contender for the title 4x4 batteries dog dangly bits! A quick comparison Optima YELLOW top (Optima starter/leisure battery) £215 SC34DA specs: 12V, 55Ah Cold Cranking Amps (EN) 690 CCA Capacity (EN) 55Ah Reserve Capacity 120 minutes Weight 19.7kg Dimensions: 254mm long, 174mm wide, 200mm high. Odyssey 1500 £225 * 880 cold cranking amps * 68 Ah capacity * Standard automotive terminals and additional side terminals - TOP SAE, SIDE 3/8” Receptacle * W 275.6 x D 171.7 x H 198.6 mm * Weight 22.4 kg * Reserved capacity 135 minutes Hope that simple comparison helps Brendan |

T1G, we have twin battery trays for pre 07 models in stock for £40. These will take twin Odyssey 1500 or twin Optimas
Unfortunately we have not come across a reasonable priced one for post 07 Defenders. Anyone on here got some pointers? Choice for post 07 includes Devon 4x4 at £48 Flatdog do one with a non conducting bar. Check with Flatdog if it will fit post 07/your batteries £48 Gwyn Lewis does one at £55 Brendan |
