2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Tonga Green
Transfer box
To fix (we can do but hope) the relentless driveline clunk everytime I let the clutch up on my TDCi, the dealer is going to change the transfer box, anyone out there know why, or more to the point if it will fix the problem? I'm not convinced it will, as there is still an excessive amount of freeplay or backlash in the F&R diffs!
Many thanks,
Bosun.

This problem was very common on the older version of the LT230 box (Especially the V8s). The output shaft of the gearbox and the input gear of the transfer box can wear excesivly causing a 'clonk' when you let up the clutch. I am supprised they aren't just changing the input gear as it takes about 2 hours to do the whole job.

That's what I might expect from an older vehicle, but my Puma has been clunking since new, and LR seem to think it's perfectly acceptable. However, I beg to differ!

Hi

I have the clonk since 8000 km. Noticeable when shifting up between 4th to 5th to 6th. I was also told to be normal. My fatherīs 109" had it, but I also was expecting an improve with the LT230Q (Q=quiet).

I`m not sure whether is the Tbox or one of the internal sahft of the gearbox. Puma 110" SW

My clunk was fixed by re-fitting the rear diff drive flange with locktight. Not sure if it is a keyed, splined or taper fit but the mechanic told me that fixed the clunk. Puma 110 - gone
