Just as I left the driveway yesterday my steering started making a horrible noise and getting very heavy. A quick look underneath and there's fluid dripping all over the drive. Inside the bonnet and there's fluid sprayed everywhere.
Ah ha! I thought. I know what this is - clearly the PAS pump seal has gone (knowledge courtesy of Defender2.net). Land Rover Assist were here within the hour. The guy had a quick look and revealed that actually the hose connecting the pump to the steering had come loose. The fluid had sprayed out and onto the PAS pump belt at the front and then been catapulted round the engine bay. 1 x 16mm spanner later and we were back in business. He had no explanation as to why the hose had come loose and had never seen it before. I recall now that spudfan had a similar issue although his wasn't ever tight from assembly. Mine has done 9000 miles so I've no idea why it has come undone now. LR assist's advice - monitor it regularly to make sure it doesn't come loose again and carry a 16mm spanner One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

The LR assist guy didn't have a 16mm spanner with him!
He was digging around for ages and then asked if I had one. "Never use a 16mm" he said. "Never worked on a Defender" I thought. I seem to have every combination of metric and imperial on mine. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

My hose came lose after 10000 km whilst off road. Had a pretty good upper body work out on my way to the dealership. Land Rover's don't leak oil, they simply mark their territory!
