Sorry I don't quite follow your logic here why will adding a cooler/rad help to warm something up quicker? Looking at the photo it looks like a oil cooler from a PTO or similar.

Yes it should work as the switch does not contain any diodes, however the only issue you may have is with the switch illumination. Unless that is on another feed.

Unfortunately it sounds like it is starting to use it's own oil, or being over fuelled. This could be for two reasons:
