Do these speaker headlamps draw less than 3a ? sounds low even for leds.
you will get a voltage drop of about 1v across the diode which shouldn't matter if the lights are leds.
a better choice ... |

My advice although it doesn't fit into cheap, is if you haven't done anything yet then consider using the 13pin euro plug and socket for both car and trailer.
