Nice Defender, reminds me of my first one, same colour and spec, though my one had a white roof.

As already said, those wheels should be fine, and would have been optional LR fitment back then.

I am currently getting just over 30mpg with recent fill ups, that's lots of short local trips including some AC use.

A few longer summer trips thrown in has in the past seen this go up to 33/34mpg ...

I find that you need to be very close to the vehicle for the fob to work, as in a few feet, replacing the battery helps a bit but not that much in my experience.
