Check you don't have locating pegs on both halves !
I've also had instances where the locating pegs or too tight a fit to go into one half or the other due to corrosion, factory tolerances etc...

1.6 transfer box turned up from Ashcroft. In the process of getting it and can't get it in the last 1/2 inch. Checked if a collar was left in the back of the autobiography and it isn't.

You say you had the gearbox rebuilt but a Disco 1 gearbox won't fit a TD5 so what else did you get done to the box ? Which torque convertor did you fit ? Was the gearbox shift pattern adjusted ?
