I have eventually got round to fitting the VDO rev counter i bought a couple of years ago to my 2005 110, i seem to have mislaid the original instructions.
I have found several installation write ups on various websites and they all suggest that the trigger for the gauge is pin No.19 on the black connector on the ECU. On my vehicle this pin location is taken by a yellow wire with a pink tracer. The Haynes wiring diagram shows a yellow / white wire in pin location No.19 So, i am a bit stuck at the moment, anyone ant idea which pin to pulse the rev counter Thanks |

Same pin, 19. The wire connected already is probably for ABS/TC (not 100% which one or both).
If you don't have ABS or TC you are in luck and the wire will terminate in the dash somewhere and is the feed for a rev counter - some TD5's were pre wired, my 2001 was not. Best way forward if you have ABS/TC is to splice into the wire at a convenient point. Thanks for the speedy reply i do have ABS and i am not sure where the wire goes once it enters the loom, i will splice into it at the ECU plug.
Hopefully i will be able to have a go at fitting tomorrow, i will post back with the result. |

Rev counter is now up and running, if i ever work out how to post a picture i will...
Lambley: yes, i would have to say the rev counter is a bit "laggy" but seems accurate when checked with Nanocom, in normal use this lag is not a problem. |

I've just picked up one of these. What other wiring is involved other than the one from the ecu? Cheers....Al 1996 Defender 130 converted to TD5 and auto 1975 Triumph Stag 3.0 V8 |

It does say for the ECU end - Black Plug pin 19.
The rev counter is marked (from memory) -, + and 2 in addition to the 2 terminals for the bulb. - is ground, + is 12V ignition and 2 is the signal feed from the ECU pin as above. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Picking up this thread, while I'm between jobs might as well play with the truck.
Just want to double check first... OK it's a dumb q but it's never actually mentioned from which direction you count .. 1) Pin 19 is looking from the underside so to speak? (the socket side) 2) Therefore my pin 19 is unused - between a pink and a red/green? I'd like to double check because this is not the Haynes manual colours 3) And mine being originally designated a 'commercial' vehicle ie van therefore never intended to have central locking, ABS, etc etc --- will pin 19 be 'live' anyway or should I check? I have no access to oscilloscope. Click image to enlarge Thanks Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |
