Black smoke
On my 2.4 I'm getting smoke on over run and acceleration. It's been suggested it could be cracked manifold inlet. Engine is standard with no mapping or upgrades and passes mot fine. Any thoughts ? Mileage is 70k and has no loss of power

Have you a code reader to see if any diagnostic trouble codes have been recorded ?

Have you replaced the injector seals yet?

No fault codes are showing and injector seals haven't been touched.

On overrun shouldn’t the injectos be switched off by the ECU? Strange that you see black smoke (over fuelling) during overrun. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Wild guess, but fuelling issues and lack of DTC’s on a 2.4 generally point to a VCV issue. However I’ve not read of it causing your specific symptoms, so someone like Blackwolf may be able to confirm if it could be the VCV in your case.

IIRC wasn’t there something about the brake pedal switch ?? Something along the lines of not working causes smoke ?? I might be making it up Laughing but sure I herd it somewhere??

^^^^^^^^
Do you mean the clutch switch, fitted on the Clutch master cylinder? This does interact with the engine ECU on gear changes, but expect would provide a DTC if having issues and I think the OP’s issues are not during gear changes.

I had a faulty EGR valve that made our Landy smoke like crazy.
RAC man hit the EGR housing with a hammer (I kid you not) Rolling with laughter and it was as good as new. https://www.instagram.com/baltic_blue_defender/

Sticking EGR valves tend to record DTC’s
