Looks like the underside part of the aerial fixing where it passes through the hole in the wing.

JCW - That is it exactly .. its from a wing mounted aerial
I had my aerial out last week replace it with the Nacca.. digital one, and that is a part of the original aerial that I removed .. I was looking at the pictures and knew I had seen that part recently !! So its nothing to do with you fitting the cruise control - hope that helps ! Mystery solved! And that also explains why the radio reception was spotty. The aerial is rotten. Thanks all!
