I recently converted my 06 90 to a V8. I have a problem with the rear Prop having to be fully collapsed in order to instal it. This may be down to the fact that the TC & Gearbox has been pushed back. However, the mounts are untouched?
My questions are: With only being moved down the chassis a centre meter or so, has this prop always been an incorrect fit? When can I expect it to go pop? (if this is such a problem) And Are the Prop Flanges different between models years, Axles and such? There are some off the shelf props with their lengths listed. I want to get lucky and simply pick and choose one that is a few centre metres shorter. Assuming yours started as a Td5? Have you retained the R380/LT230 in the same location as the original installation?
On my V8 conversion I went from an LT77 to an R380 and used the transfer box/gearbox mounts as per a 300tdi then used those to set the locations of the engine mounts. Yes, same mount positions for the TC & gearbox. Keep in mind on the later chassis the mounts are slotted for the bolt so there is movenent available. Potentially different on Pre TD5 chassis'.
Now I know that the flanges do not change I'll have a think about using the shorter Puma rear Prop. Reason for the need to move the gearbox & TC back was due to the need to fight for fitment between the accessory system and the PAS box. 4.0 V8 Defender 90 My Instagram |

For sure not. I found "FRC7732 - DEFENDER 90 REAR PROPSHAFT 666FOR 2.25 & 2.5 UP TO CA252578 CHASSIS NUMBER". But I am not aware that there were any changes to chassis or gearbox/TC (except suffixes). 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Just note that by default, Puma 90 rear shaft is out of phase (diff yoke and transfer case side yoke are not aligned, just like the front prop shaft of all years). This was apparently done to reduce 'vibration' since the diff and TC are not parallel on a Puma (nose up engine install). If your TC (and engine) are installed horizontally, then you need the yokes to be aligned, so they work together and get constant speed again. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

When I read the description on their website for the Puma rear prop shaft, they say "Phased when required to reduce vibrations.". So seems like they can tailor it for specific needs.
