l've got a surplus new genuine TD5 rev counter that l never fitted to my 2005 TD5, if l can find it in the boxes of Land Rover spares in my garage.

Bit late to the party, but that's a VDO cockpit vision rev counter:

You should be able to take a feed from the unused RPM output pin on the TD5 ECU to feed the VDO gauge. The VDO has settings for number of pulses per revolution, and from what I remember one of them matches up to the number of pulses the ECU outputs.
