On my 110 external cage the chassis bracket fitted to the inside of the crossmember. The top of that was shimmed to remove any gaps to the part that fits inside.

Def2 member Bankz5152 had one fitted to his TD5 110 and there is some info in this thread. He also did a good write up on a different and rather down-market forum, and I just I happen to have it book-marked since it was an excellent write-up. I don't know if the thread above or the other forum's thread answers your questions, but here is a link to the other place:

Unfortunately Bankz5152 later managed to bend his cage to a spectacular and shocking degree, and it provides a sobering example of why SD cages are good things to have. Click image to enlarge This is the part I am talking about. Sits on rear chassis x member and goes to the top bottom of the tub. Not sure if the intent is to sit the top of the tube and right angle directly on the x member using the shims as one side would use up all the shims wondering if anybody could have a look cheers Simon |

Ill dig out some photos from my fit. From memory i loosely bolted into the xmember then drilled to tops. Think there where a couple packers but mostly pulled in with a buzz gun - remember cages are meant to be installed under tension which is what helps create the brace strength.

It's all coming back to me now
No shims on the top of the crossmember. But yes to shims at the top to ensure there are no gaps between the tops and the tub. If you zoom in you can just see the single shim I had to use at the top. Click image to enlarge |

Thanks for that bods so at the bottom where the bolts are for thro the x member does the top sit on the x member or slightly above

Mine was slightly above. How much is dictated by the positioning of all the other gubbins. The crossmember bolts were the last ones I tightened. Nip everything else up to et it all lined up, tighten the crossmember bolts then tighten the rest to keep a bit of tension in the whole thing.
It is all in the instructions but don't forget the spacers inside the crossmember. Mine were quite tricky to get in. Good luck  |

You can just see it at the bottom of this pic. I used some plastic window spacers to keep it up temporarily while I got it all bolted together. Probably sits about 5-8mm above.

Ok thanks for that yes the spacers do not even fit in they are a size in size fit in mine may shave a bit of them in the mill and then get them re powder coated as the chassis is a galvanised chassis and I don’t want to force them in. Thanks for the help

Rather than start a new thread, after trawling through the Def2 archives, I thought I would resurrect the most recent one.
Has anyone fitted the Safety Devices RBL138 7SSS to a Puma 90 HT? http://www.safetydevices.com/expedition/pr.../276/1797/ If so, can you tell me where the internal hoop sits in relation to the seats? Being tall, my backrest is reclined and there aren’t many great photos of the internal hoop in a HT but it would appear that it is behind the seat box and I may not find clearance an issue (have XS LR Premium seats fitted, so no shoulder wings to worry about) |

Not sure about a 90 but if it sites behind the seatbox then it may be the same as my 110.
