Yours looks fine with a clear gap. On mine the hose is right up against the sharp edge of the air filter housing (? I think). Have put a couple of stainless hose clips round it as was starting to chafe.

Yours clearly has a modified air intake canister, with a flat section to avoid touching the hose.

Today mine went in for this to be rectified.
lt's come back.....exactly the same!! l thought they would fit the modified canister but they've just replaced the hose and "re routed" it. But it's still touching the canister. l'm not taking it back again, it took two months to get an appointment and l was without the vehicle two days. l will keep an eye on it, the new hose has an armoured sheath but l think the old hose had that. l may have to buy and fit the canister myself if it starts to chafe. Although it will be a long time before it actually rubs through the hose, if ever. |

I’ve put a couple of stainless steel hose clips round mine where the hose chafes against the sharp plastic edge. Think it should protect the hose indefinitely?

Yes that will certainly help.
You can also carefully remove the edge of the canister with a craft knife (about 2mm of the plastic edge can be removed before you get to the actual seam, and it does make all the difference) |

Modified part now available. lt's a recall/warranty issue but they couldn't commune for months so l've bought the part to fit myself.

Do you have the tech bulitin number? Mine is going back into the dealers shortly so would like to get them to fix it properly. Last time they changed the hose and the tech bulitin they were operating from just said, loosen bolt, relocate air resonator further back, tighten bolt. l ended up buying and fitting the part myself.
lt's fairly easy to fit although you'll need a 1/4" ratchet driver to loosen the bottom hose clip, due to access issues. |

Someone I know had a similar issue with component/pipe chaffing on an other vehicle. His solution? Well he took the lid from a sardine tin, the ring pull type, bent it around the hose where the component was rubbing and secured it with some cable ties as a temporary measure. The "temporary" measure was still in place when he sold the car some years later but it worked. Wonder what the maindealer would say if your Defender landed in with this "temporary" fix! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
