He's going to be more unpopular than Macron.

Brands that disrespect their traditions and customers deserve everything they get.
Unlike Bud Light and Nike customers, I won't be burning/shooting/crushing my Defender just yet...

Seriously though, they're f***ed. Sad

New Defender sales have stomped all over the classic Defender sales numbers... So they've obviously done something right - just not for some of the old customers. We had a new Defender in 2013 and now again in 2023 - they share the same name, but there's no way they are designed for the same market!

But who is he going to be unpopular with? The die hard LR crew, most of whom don't buy new LRs or the current / future customers, few of whom have had older LRs but want a car to meet their needs, lifestyle or aspirations?

I just don't care any more. I'm a dinosaur not even vaguely in the gene pool of people who buy one of these cars. I buy parts, some genuine, so I do hope they keep the green oval on these items simply for nostalgic and visual reasons.

There's something very nice about an ERR3340 sticking out from under a Rover V8. If they rebrand these I'm buying Mahle, see - that'll really show 'em!

I see that Jaguar have just announced a new electric car……..with a start price of £100k.

Why don’t they just hang up a sign that says ‘Fxxk You, we don’t want you, only the 000.1%ers’.

This will also be the final nail in the coffin of most of the JLR dealerships that have spent a fortune upgrading their dealerships and even having to relocate to ensure that they are up to standard.

Let’s face it, who needs a salesman when the secretary will order the bosses car off a website and then have it delivered.

And let’s face it, with JLR’s reputation who is going to spend that amount of money only to see it conked out on the driveway awaiting for the final working service department to pick it up……. Whistle

If they're selling more new Defenders than they ever did old ones, then maybe the house needed pulling down...

When we bought the old Defender, everyone loved it, but no-one else we know would have bought one. Now we have a new Defender, everyone still loves it, but this time they are saying they'd love to own one as well.

Different times, different car, different market...

It'll be interesting to see if Ineos can make the Grenadier a success - albeit, it's a bit of a different proposition to have a low volume vehicle made for you by a third party factory compared to having your own factory.

It’s a competitive market with many options for buyers with different budgets. Look at the growth of MG. Customers will vote with their pockets. JLR is pitching for different customers with low volume high price / margin cars. Why not? Just because the traditional LR fans, no longer the target market, don’t like it doesn’t make it wrong. Again there are options - pick-ups, Toyotas, Ines, Lada etc. Nostalgia is a niche market. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.
