Defender 110 200 tdi fitted with steel wheels 5.50f x 16 currently fitted with 7.50 x 16 tyres.
Would it be possible to fit 235/80/16 tyres on these rims? Sounds a silly question but I just measured the spare on the 110 and though marked 7.50 x 16, it is wider than the 7.50 x 16 tyres fitted to the road wheels but not as wide as the 235 tyres. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

not ideal they should be on 6.5 rims for best handling.
7.50 work ok on std 5.5 rims though |

I like the 7.50x16 tyres but they are getting hard to find. I currently have Goodyear Wrangler Radial 7.50x16 and am very pleased with them. Unfortunately they are no longer available. Goodyear do a similar tyre in 235/85/16, thus my question. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

i assume that those wheels are tubeless and don't require a tube.
Tubeless tyres are not smooth on the inside from memory and hence will wear the tubes until they suddenly let go.... Lets just say that was a brown trouser moment on the A303. The next day they got changed for a set of Wolf wheels Click image to enlarge |

The current steel wheels are tubed. Just looking for options for later. Over here at the annual MOT you get a warning when your tyres reach 6 years of age, irrespective of wear or condition. The 7.50x16 tyres on my 110 just passed 6 years of age before the test so I got a notification on the cert about the tyres. The 110 does not do many miles so there is little wear and no cracks in them.
As of yet this is not a fail but knowing insurance companies I would not want to be involved in an accident and have them use tyre age as a contributory factor. I might go Wolf wheels and a change to 235/85/16 tyres. Was it a straight forward change fitting the Wolfs on the 110? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

My 110 was a 300tdi and so fitted on the studs without issues.
I don't know about the 200, i know that some had to have longer studs fitted due to the thickness of the Wolf rims. |

I suppose the rear drum brakes would need to be factored in. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

No problem to mount 235/85r16 on standard 5.5 steel rim.
