Finally some pictures of the Defender. Picked it up last Friday at Ex Tec and drove towards Würzburg for the night. Rained all night and quite a bit of wind, what a difference!
In the old rooftop tent (Hannibal) I would have worried for the rain sheet over the ladder tho come loose from the poles and have to secure it in the middle of the night. Now everything was quit and the wind did not affect our sleep. Closing the roof in the morning was also really nice since we did not have to climb on the roof and mess with the wet tent cover. After working for 700km in the heavy rain, the window wipers decided to stop working right when we entered the street where we live.. Probably the wiper switch since I had to repair ir once already. Should buy a new one actually.. Have to admit it felt quite a bit smaller than the RTT. Mainly the mattress length of 1m90 seemed a bit small. Might be a case of getting used to.. Does anyone know the brand of the pop top roof shown on the orange Defender in this video?
Its the first one i've seen that does not change the appearance of the roofline. I know the green one is the Ex-Tec roof but not seen the orange one before. |

Oh thats a shame - i really liked the idea of the pop roof without the big 'forehead'
Thanks for the info though. I still really like the Ex-Tec roof - especially the hard sided one. Looks like a great bit of kit 👍 |

as an update -
X-Vision-X have updated their website with an English translation and costs in £ as well as €. They also are selling the top as a kit for about half the cost of a fitted one -- so good value for someone who has some basic skills! see https://x-vision-x.com/en Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

The northerner in me still finds that pricey for a kit.
The drivelodge kit by comparison is £1700 for self fitting. https://www.lrbits.co.uk/pop-top-roofs/dri...fender-110 |

Am interested in your's and anyone else's comments about size as we are fixed on getting a pop-top in the future. I'm a similar height to you and want to be able to sleep comfortably. It would annoy me if I spent all that money to be less comfortable than my tent. Are some roof/bed arrangements better than others in this regard? It's something that might be difficult to test before making a commitment. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

I suggest that you visit the next big landrover show and pester pop top owers to see their set up and try the beds for size.
Most will be of similar length due to the roof being a fixed dimension, however nothing beats laying on the actual bed to see how it feels - I did this before spending my cash and we have been very happy with the result (- my partner is 6’1 and has no issues in the top. ) If you are at the Belvoir Castle event in September you are free to come and find me at the landrover charities camping area and my friends & I will happily show you around some of the various range of pop tops that we have. Will do that no doubt, just wasn't sure how keen folk would be to have strangers scrambling about in their homes from home. I probably wont make any shows this year, but will certainly be doing so in the future. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It's all in the mattress!!
As long as you can fit in lengthways then the quality of the mattress is everything. We love our xVx poptop but really didn't like the mattress that came with it as it was too thin and spongy. I splashed out £500 on a custom size memory foam mattress and it is superb. My wife has a bad back and we are 2 weeks into a holiday in France and she has not had any problems at all. You need to ensure you don't get one too thick so the roof still closes! PM me for details if you're interested... Just had the pop top from AW4x4 fitted on the 110 following comments on the forum. Looks great and really good bloke to deal with. Will get it's first test at the LRO show.
I've got the drivelodge pop top fitted to the 90 (which is great as well) but wanted something I could leave all the bedding in, was less likely to be damaged by low branches, was made in the UK and cost less than an Alucab! 200Tdi 90 Hard Top 2.4 Tdci 110 Station Wagon |

Just back from 15 days in the Pyrenees - awesome! But thought I’d should show a couple of Drivelodge pop top shots in action, along with the Tuff-Trek 270 awning.
