Yes, the bolt above number 9 needs to be removed to release the accessory drive component bracket.
For that, you first need to remove the 3 bolts holding the alternator to the alloy bracket on the left of the engine. You should not need to completly remove the alternator from the engine bay though, just reposition it a bit forward or to the side so you can access the bolt above number 9. Best would be to disconnect the battery before so you don't short anything while manipulating the alternator as it has permanent live connection to the battery. /Mat |

3hrs later and yes the bolt does need to come out! I did remove the 3 alternator bolts and moved the alternator out of the way to remove the bolt and release the bracket. Click image to enlarge My alternator bolts to say they where seized is an understatement, we really struggled with the restricted access to remove the 3 alternator bolts. I am actually going to get some replacement bolts for the alternator. I ended up using https://maltings4x4store.co.uk and ordered a new belt, belt tensioner and bracket and bearing. Ill make sure to disconnect the negative terminal when i come to re install everything must admit i should have but did not for the bracket removal.[/url] |

The 2.4 has the matching bolt on the nearside as well (deleted or possibly just omitted on the 2.2) and it is staggeringly awkward to remove. It makes the one behind the alternator seem easy.

We had so much quarry dust built up on the alternator bolts they where so tough to undo, most of our time and effort was spent on removing the 3 bolts on the alternator.
I managed to order some FB110226 from https://www.lrparts.net/ I was reading the Haynes manual looks like they will need to be torqued to 48 Nm. Am i missing an easy access panel for the alternator bolts we are accessing them from underneath with a spanner then a socket once we have the clearance between the frame and bolt gap. I do also have the filter box removed and the turbo intake pipe out of the way for better clearance. Maybe "This is the way" |

Yes "this is the way" I did it, from the top. Airbox and boost hose out of the way. Still not easy.

I would respectfully suggest that the alternator bolts are yet another example of the sort of fastener where there is absolutely no point whatsoever in using a torque wrench, just do them up sensibly. |

Thats good to know! We was deliberating if loctite as needed in case they could be susceptible to vibrate out loose.
Sensible tight works for me given the location and access! |

I did complete the repair withe the help of the brother in law and he kindly built me a viscous fan tool!
